IANVA

FILE UNDER: Italian Cabaret Melodrama, Soundtrack, Dark Cabaret, Chanson /Canzone d’Autore, Folk Noir, Neoclassical

Born in 2003 in Genoa, Italy, IANVA is the result of the unification of nine musicians from different backgrounds (classical and conservatory studies, Goth, Prog, Black Metal, Dark Cabaret) united with the idea of resurrecting the music of older times, from the mood of film noir to the European cafe mood of the ’20s, ’30s and ’40s. Like a dark cabaret, enchanting their audience not only with their music but also vital stories of Italy’s past.

Dark Cabaret, Orchestral Pop of the ’60s, Melodrama, Chanson and Italian “canzone d’autore” flow with epic and highly visual compositions laced with touches of the very finest of Italian film score composers (Ennio Morricone, Nino Rota, etc..) stamped with a style which is uniquely IANVA: an authentic sound, the only sampling utilized being the small bits between the songs resurrecting memories from the past to further enhance the story being told.

IANVA’s artistry results in a rétro flavoured mélange that has been highly anticipated and warmly greeted by the press and audiences in Italy and abroad. Elegant with a hint of melodrama, a sound determined to resurrect the Italian past without whitewashing it and without a trace of a hidden ideological agenda.

Alongside Italian and European gigs, the Italian ensemble – almost a mini orchestra – have performed live in some of the most important European Festivals (Wave Gotik Treffen 2009, 2013 and 2017, Summer Darkness 2010, Entremuralhas 2016) as well as at historical landmarks for cultural events (above all, a sold-out special gig at Il Vittoriale Degli Italiani, D’Annunzio’s personal monumental estate).
